We are pleased to offer Functional Medical Services through our CEO and Medical Director, Andrea McSwain, DO, in our Grand Rapids and Lansing locations. Dr. McSwain has extensive training in Osteopathic Medicine with an emphasis on Holistic Healing.
Through decades of specialty training in Functional Medicine and Functional Lab testing and Osteopathic Manipulation, our physician team is available throughout Michigan to provide our communities with accessible holistic healthcare.
Our physicians believe in a Holistic Medical approach to support and achieve patient health and wellbeing. Our physicians place themselves out of the box of modern medicine, rooting their treatment in the knowledge that our healing power comes from within oneself. Our functionally trained DO’s treat the person, not the disease, with a holistic mindset of overall healing.
A Complete Diagnosis
Osteopathic medical doctors work with their patients to discover what we refer to as a “complete diagnosis”, which means considering contributing factors beyond those that are physically apparent. For example, depression can be caused by “uncommon” factors such as inflammation which can then lead to a number of other diagnoses throughout the body.
A condition can result from multiple causes
- DEPRESSION, a condition, can be caused by many causes, including inflammation.
- Inflammation, a cause, may lead to a number of conditions, including DEPRESSION.
- The precise manifestation of each cause depends on the individual’s genes, environment, and lifestyle, and only treatments that address the right cause will have lasting benefit beyond symptom suppression.
Navigating quality of life is at the forefront of each individual’s medical recommendations, utilizing tools such as lifestyle modifications, supplementation, functional lab testing, and Osteopathic Manipulation Treatments. IV nutrient infusions and injections, Ozone Infusions, Prolotherapy, PRP and more are additional services our physicians are clinically trained to provide to patients to achieve an extensive and all inclusive care plan.
An ideal patient of a DO is one who is seeking active change for the betterment of their future at any age. Due to the biology-based approach used by our physicians, patients often find healing within their own bodies as opposed to through prescription drugs or harmful procedures.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is a systems biology–based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to an individual’s illness. Dr. Andrea McSwain believes that patients commonly confuse being given a medicine with the practice of medicine.
